Step 1: Make sure each member of your team has their travel journals!

 

Step 2: Where is Egypt?

 

Use the following websites to travel through Egypt and learn about the geography of Egypt, the Nile River, and the weather in Egypt. Lable the following on the map in your traveler's journal:

 

  • Nile River

  • Sahara Desert

  • Mediterranean Sea

  • Red Sea

  • City of Giza

  • City of Thebes

  • City of Memphis

    
Think about these questions as you do your research:

  1. How long is the Nile River?

  2. What happened each year that allowed the Egyptians to prosper even though they lived in an area that was mostly desert?

  3. Why was the desert important to the ancient Egyptians?

 

 

 

Step 3: Stop and see the architecture!

 

Use the following websites and learn all about the architecture of ancient Egypt.  Then fill out the Architecture page of your traveler's journal.

 

 

 

Think about these questions as you do you research:

  1. What were the large tombs built for pharoahs called?

  2. How do you think the pyramids contributed to our buildings today?

 

Step 4: Learn about Egyptian inventions!

 

Use the following websites and learn all about the inventions of ancient Eygpt. Fill out the Inventions page of your traveler's journal.

 

 

Think about these questions as you do your research:

  1. What is one invention that we still use today?

  2. What did they make their paper from?

 

 

Step 5: Hieroglyphics

 

Use the follwing websites to explore and learn about the written language of ancient Egypt. Be sure to complete the Written Language page of your traveler's journal.

 

 

Think about these questions as you complete your research:

  1. What was the form of writing in ancient Egypt in which pictures and symbols were used?

  2. What was the stone that helped scientists understand hieroglyphics?

 

Step 6: Review

 

Use any of the websites listed above or do your own search to fill in any missing information you have in your traveler's journals. Be sure to check with your groupmates to see what information they found. As a team, complete the travel brochure handout. Make sure you include colorful pictures to make your brochure fun!
